Pakistan emerged victorious in the Hong Kong Super Sixes 2025, defeating Kuwait in a dominant final performance to secure the championship title. The team displayed power-hitting, sharp bowling, and clinical teamwork throughout the tournament, marking a memorable achievement for Pakistan cricket in the shortest format.
Batting first in the final, Pakistan stormed to a massive 135 for 3 in the allotted six overs — a commanding total that left Kuwait with an uphill task. Captain Abbas Afridi led from the front, smashing a sensational 52 off just 11 balls, including seven towering sixes before retiring hurt. His innings set the tone for Pakistan’s aggressive approach.
Abdul Samad played a brilliant supporting role with 42 off 13 balls, while Khawaja Nafay added a quickfire 22 off 6 deliveries, ensuring Pakistan’s momentum never dipped. Despite Meet Bhavsar’s impressive three-wicket spell, Kuwait’s bowlers struggled to contain Pakistan’s explosive batting, which maintained a staggering run rate of 22.5 per over.
In response, Kuwait launched a spirited counterattack. Bhavsar remained unbeaten on 33, while Adnan Idrees chipped in with 30 runs, but their combined efforts could only take the team to 92 runs in five overs. Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Maaz Sadaqat (3 for 29), kept the pressure on, while Abbas Afridi and Muhammad Shahzad chipped in with one wicket each.
Earlier in the semi-final, Pakistan edged past Australia by one run in a nail-biting encounter. Khawaja Nafay’s blazing 50 off 14 balls powered Pakistan to 121 for 2, and a disciplined bowling performance in the closing overs sealed their place in the final.
With the title win, Pakistan reaffirmed its status as one of the most exciting teams in short-format cricket, combining flair and aggression with composure under pressure.
Following the victory, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the team, saying:
“Congratulations to the Pakistan Cricket Team and the entire nation on winning the Hong Kong Super Sixes title! A fantastic display of skill, passion, and teamwork truly showcasing Pakistan’s cricketing spirit at its best.”
The triumph not only brings pride to the nation but also highlights Pakistan’s growing dominance in global short-format tournaments.
