The Pakistan Navy has officially assumed command of Combined Task Force-150 (CTF-150) for the 14th time, marking a continued commitment to maintaining maritime security across critical waterways. The change of command ceremony took place at the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) headquarters in Bahrain on January 29, 2026.

Leadership Transition

Commodore Muhammad Yasir Tahir of the Pakistan Navy took over the command from Commodore Fahad S. Al Joaid of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF). The event was attended by key military and diplomatic figures, including the Pakistani Ambassador to Bahrain, Saqib Rauf, Vice Admiral Curt A. Renshaw, Commander of CMF, and Rear Admiral Ahmed Mohamed Ebrahim Al Bin Ali, Commander of the Royal Bahrain Naval Forces.

Commitment to Maritime Security

In his address, Commodore Tahir expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to manage the responsibilities associated with leading CTF-150. He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s dedication to countering illicit maritime activities and safeguarding vital sea lines of communication. This commitment plays a crucial role in promoting stability and security throughout the Indian Ocean region.

Role of Combined Task Force-150

CTF-150 operates as one of five task forces under the Combined Maritime Forces umbrella. Its mission focuses on deterring and disrupting non-state actors involved in trafficking weapons, narcotics, and other illegal goods across the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Oman. The Pakistan Navy’s successful anti-narcotics operations during the previous Saudi-led command highlight its ongoing efforts to support regional peace through cooperative maritime initiatives.
