President Dr Arif Alvi emphasized the nation’s potential to lead the country towards prosperity and development during his address at the 31st Convocation of the University of Karachi. He envisioned a rehabilitated country within five to ten years. Dr Alvi acknowledged the transformative power of science and technology, propelling humanity to new heights.

Addressing the graduating students, he congratulated them while highlighting the concerning number of two crore and 62 thousand children being out of school. Dr Alvi urged the elite segment to actively contribute to bringing these children into the education system. Emphasizing the importance of moral and ethical values, he stated that education alone does not form the foundation; parents, teachers, and society’s environment play crucial roles.

Encouraging the graduates to play a specific role in promoting moral values, Dr Alvi addressed the ongoing Israeli brutalities in Gaza. He underscored the connection between intellectual battles and global interests and stressed the need for morality, given that educated individuals have been involved in world brutalities. The president also highlighted the challenges posed by out-of-context conversations on social media and emphasized the importance of acquiring communication skills to navigate these issues.

The convocation also featured addresses by the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, and Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi. President Dr Arif Alvi, serving as the Chancellor of public universities, presented medals to the graduating students and scholars during the ceremony.
