Pakistan launches a $540,855 research project to test antibiotic alternatives on 30 poultry farms and reduce antibiotic use.

Pakistan has signed an agreement with Denmark-based ICARS for a three-year research project worth $540,855 to test alternatives to antibiotics on 30 poultry farms.

The project will be led by the University of Agriculture Faisalabad in collaboration with the Poultry Research Institute, Rawalpindi.

Aim to Reduce Antibiotic Use

Researchers will test organic acids as a possible alternative to antibiotics. The study aims to reduce antibiotic treatments by at least 20% without affecting poultry health or farm productivity.

The project will also examine antibiotic use, antimicrobial resistance and the cost of adopting these alternatives.
