Iran has issued a stern warning that any form of attack against it will be treated as an all-out war, following the announcement of a significant US military presence moving into the Middle East. This comes as the United States prepares to deploy an aircraft carrier strike group, including the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the region.
Iran’s Position on Potential Conflict
A senior Iranian official, speaking anonymously, stated that Iran is currently on high alert due to the US military buildup. The official emphasized that regardless of the scale or nature of any potential strike—whether limited, surgical, or otherwise—Iran will respond with full force.
“This military build-up – we hope it is not intended for real confrontation – but our military is ready for the worst-case scenario,” the official said. “Any attack will be treated as an all-out war against us, and we will respond in the hardest way possible to settle this.”
US Military Deployment and Statements
US President Donald Trump described the incoming naval forces as an “armada” heading toward Iran but expressed hope that it would not be necessary to engage militarily. He reiterated warnings to Tehran against harming protesters or resuming its nuclear program.
Historical Context and Military Preparedness
The US has periodically increased its military presence in the Middle East during periods of heightened tensions, often as a defensive measure. A notable buildup occurred last year prior to US strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
The Iranian official highlighted the country’s need to maintain readiness due to ongoing threats, stating, “A country under constant military threat from the United States has no option but to ensure that everything at its disposal can be used to push back and, if possible, restore balance against anyone who dares to attack Iran.”
