The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is continuing conversations with Pakistani authorities in order to secure an agreement on financial assistance from the Fund as soon as possible.
This was said by Nathan Porter, IMF Mission Chief, in a statement made by the IMF Resident Representative in Pakistan, Esther Perez Ruiz.
According to the statement, the Staff level agreement under the Fund’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) has yet to be achieved.
“Over the past few days, the Pakistani authorities have taken decisive measures to bring policies more in line with the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-supported economic reform programme, including the passage of a budget by the parliament that broadens the tax base while opening up space for higher social and development spending, as well as steps towards improving the functioning of the foreign exchange market and tightening monetary policy,” the statement said.
“The IMF team is continuing discussions with Pakistani authorities with the goal of quickly reaching an agreement on IMF financial assistance.”
