The federal government has approved a grant of Rs250 million to support the Pakistan hockey team’s participation in the upcoming FIH Pro League.
According to an official notification issued by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the grant has been sanctioned to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) with clear directives to submit a comprehensive plan within three days. The plan must cover details regarding the national team’s travel schedule, logistics, training arrangements, and administrative requirements to ensure smooth participation in the prestigious tournament.
The decision reflects the government’s commitment to revive the national game, which has struggled with financial constraints in recent years.
It is worth mentioning that the federal government has allocated a total of Rs400 million for sports development. Out of this, Rs250 million is earmarked for hockey, while the remaining Rs150 million will fund the inaugural National Youth Games in Islamabad.
Sports analysts believe that timely financial support could provide the much-needed boost for Pakistan hockey, allowing the team to focus on performance rather than administrative hurdles.
