Fifa President Gianni Infantino has confirmed he will visit Pakistan in the near future to promote football and support the country’s growing football community. This announcement came during the 56th annual World Economic Forum summit in Davos.

Commitment to Pakistan’s Football Growth

Infantino stated that he promised Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to make the trip soon, highlighting the positive changes under the new leadership of Pakistan’s football federation. He expressed confidence in Pakistan’s potential, saying, “Pakistan is a great football country, and we need to bring Pakistan to the head, the top of Asia, for sure.”

Focus on Talent and Grassroots Development

Fifa’s Chief of Global Football Development, Arsene Wenger, also spoke about Pakistan’s large population and the significant opportunities it presents for football growth. Wenger emphasized the importance of establishing football academies and nurturing youth football as foundational steps. “I met Pakistani people to develop an academy in Pakistan because I think that is the first step,” he explained, adding that youth development is equally vital.

When asked about his own visit to Pakistan, Wenger expressed hope to travel there, noting the challenge of visiting all 211 Fifa member countries within a year.

Revitalizing Pakistani Football

Pakistan’s football scene has faced challenges in recent years due to administrative disputes and international isolation. However, the formation of a new leadership structure has renewed confidence and opened doors for international collaboration.

Infantino’s upcoming visit is expected to strengthen ties between Fifa and Pakistan further. Discussions will likely focus on improving football governance, expanding youth programs, and enhancing grassroots initiatives. Officials anticipate that this engagement could play a key role in revitalizing football in Pakistan and creating new opportunities at both domestic and international levels.
