ISLAMABAD: In a major relief measure for the corporate sector, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani on Saturday announced that the government has slashed the super tax rate by 2 percentage points, bringing it down from 10% to 8% for businesses earning over Rs150 million annually.

Speaking at an event at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Kayani said the government remains committed to reducing the disproportionate tax burden on compliant sectors and creating a more business-friendly environment.

The reduction will apply to companies and businesses with earnings between Rs150 million and Rs500 million, as well as those earning above Rs500 million.

Kayani said the measure is part of the government’s broader strategy to ease financial pressure on industries driving economic growth while expanding Pakistan’s narrow tax base.

He added that revenue collection is also being improved through digitalisation, automated and faceless customs procedures, track-and-trace systems, and reduced human intervention within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to Kayani, these reforms are expected to curb tax evasion, simplify compliance for legitimate taxpayers, and help establish a more transparent and equitable economic system.
