According to sources on Tuesday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is anticipated to hike electricity prices in Pakistan owing to fuel cost adjustment.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to NEPRA, seeking an increase of Rs7.13 per unit in electricity rates starting from the upcoming month.
If approved by NEPRA, this hike would impose an additional burden of Rs66.77 billion on consumers already grappling with inflation.
In its plea, CPPA stated that 7.93 billion units were distributed to power distribution companies in January 2024.
NEPRA is scheduled to review the petition on Feb 23. It’s worth noting that the revised prices will not affect lifeline KE consumers.
