The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement reference, as reported by ARY News.

Verdict Reserved and Bail Granted: A two-member bench, consisting of IHC CJ Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, reserved the verdict a day earlier following the conclusion of arguments. Today, in its short order, the IHC directed the authorities to release Imran Khan on bail upon the submission of a surety bond of Rs1 million.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings: Despite the bail granted by the IHC, Imran Khan will remain in jail as he is currently facing trial in cipher and Nikkah cases.

Background of NCA Case: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) initiated an investigation against Imran Khan, his wife, and others regarding the alleged acquisition of hundreds of canals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, resulting in a reported loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.

Allegations and Charges: Imran Khan and other accused individuals allegedly misappropriated Rs50 billion, which amounted to 190 million pounds at the time, transmitted by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.

Legal Proceedings: In December 2023, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a corruption reference against Imran Khan and seven others, including his wife, in connection with the Al-Qadir University. The PTI chief established the Trust for the Al-Qadir University Project on December 26, 2019.
