The World Health Organization’s chief said on Wednesday that it had lost contact with health workers at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza after Israeli forces began raiding the facility.
The reports of the military entry into Shifa were very disturbing, according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“We’ve lost contact with hospital personnel once more.” “We’re very concerned about their and their patients’ safety,” he remarked on the social media platform X.
Expressing his dismay, U.N. aid chief Martin Griffiths stated on Wednesday that he found the reports of the raids deeply troubling.
“The utmost priority must be given to safeguarding newborns, patients, medical personnel, and all civilians,” he conveyed on X. “Hospitals should remain neutral grounds.”
Witnesses reported that Israeli troops entered Shifa, Gaza’s largest hospital, on Wednesday, conducting searches in its rooms and basement. Israel claims that there are Hamas fighters with a headquarters in tunnels beneath the hospital, a charge denied by Hamas.
