Police rescued two christian families from their homes in Sargodha’s Mujahid Colony on Saturday morning. The Sargodha District Police Officer (DPO) Asad Ejaz Malhi reported that the incident began on the basis of alleged desecration. However, the police envoy reached before the violence accelerated. Consequently, there were no fatalities.“When police arrived, the mob had gathered outside the houses. Officers cordoned off the area and safely evacuated all residents” The police was able to not rescue these targets but also dispersed the mob. Elahi stated, “The police peacefully dispersed the crowd.” With this impression that the matter was resolved in peace, the Officer dismissed the social media news as rumours. The multiple videos of a bloodied man and a fire that was circulating were dismissed as “fake videos”. However, a close relative of one of the two christian families has contradicted this public statement by describing his uncle’s critical condition.

Investigation and Action

A proper investigation to find the perpetrators has been launched on the orders of CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz. Punjab Home Affairs Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal has been appointed this responsibility. Mengal will review the causes and probe into the incident, directing all senior officers to examine every detail. As per the chief minister’s instructions, he will also evaluate the law and order situation. The secretary stated, “Pakistan belongs to all of us; no injustice will be tolerated under the guise of religion. Action will be taken according to the law after a complete investigation. ”

Sargodha DPO Malhi announced that a district peace committee, consisting of district administration officials and religious scholars from both Muslim and minority communities, would assess the situation and release a statement. The Christian community is also anticipated to issue a statement. Regarding the suspect, DPO Malhi stated that the individual is in custody and that further investigation is ongoing, though he could not confirm whether the alleged desecration had taken place.
