Australian batting star Travis Head has been released from the ongoing T20I series against India to focus on his red-ball preparation ahead of the highly anticipated 2025-26 Ashes series.
Head, who recently scored 28 runs in Melbourne before a brief outing in Hobart, will now rejoin South Australia for a Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania as part of his red-ball buildup. The decision comes as Cricket Australia prioritizes Test readiness, ensuring key players are in peak form before the Ashes opener on November 21 in Perth.
This move is part of Australia’s broader strategy to fine-tune their squad for the long-format challenge, allowing top players to regain rhythm and adaptability in red-ball conditions. Head’s release also opens opportunities for emerging batters to make their mark in the remaining T20Is.
The adjustment highlights Australia’s focus on maintaining a balance between formats while emphasizing the prestige of the Ashes — cricket’s oldest and most competitive rivalry.
