Captain Shaheen Afridi says Pakistan can chase 350 or 400, backs young players and praises Babar Azam and Salman Agha ahead of the tri-nation ODI series.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has expressed confidence in the team’s batting depth and preparations for the tri-nation ODI series. Speaking at a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, he said, “We are capable of chasing down targets of 350 or 400 runs,” adding that the team would play according to conditions while keeping its long-term focus on the World Cup.

Building the ODI Team

Shaheen said Pakistan has been working to build its ODI side over the past four series and has tried to prepare pitches in line with the requirements of the global tournament. He said the team has performed well in T20 cricket and needs to keep developing its ODI setup, calling the tri-nation series “quite important.”

Players

  • Babar Azam: Shaheen called him the backbone of the team and said his experience, including five years as captain, is valuable for younger players.

  • Young players: They will be introduced gradually so they can develop and establish themselves.

  • Saim Ayub: His left-arm spin could be a useful extra option in ODIs.

  • Salman Ali Agha: Shaheen praised him as a good cricketer who understands his role, and noted his recent first-class triple century.

Rival Captains

Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis said his team is ready and that the final T20 performance boosted morale. England captain Harry Brook said he understands conditions in Pakistan and welcomes the challenge of facing two strong teams.
