Local organisers say the Asian Cup is on track for January 7 to February 5 in Saudi Arabia, though the Saudi International golf is postponed indefinitely.

Local organisers said on Friday, October 16, that the Asian Cup is on track to take place in Saudi Arabia early next year, with the 24-team tournament scheduled for January 7 to February 5. The committee said preparations across all organisational and operational areas, including venues, facilities and supporting services, are progressing according to the approved schedule, and that it will keep monitoring relevant developments.

Background

Asian Football Confederation chief Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa had said earlier this week that postponing the tournament to 2028 was possible if necessary. Questions about the schedule followed a strike on Riyadh’s international airport on Saturday, which killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 300, with Yemen’s Houthi movement claiming responsibility.

Other Sporting Events

Saudi International golf: The Asian Tour postponed the $5 million event, scheduled for November 18-21 at Riyadh Golf Club, indefinitely, citing organisational and logistical challenges.
Urban cycling World Championships: Australia withdrew its team from the event in Riyadh in early November, citing athlete safety.
Six Kings Slam: The exhibition tennis event has been moved from October to December.
FIFAe Finals 2026: FIFA postponed the video game competition until an unspecified date.

The Asian Cup was positioned as an early rehearsal for Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the 2034 World Cup.
