Former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza was appointed as the sports ambassador for Dubai by the Dubai Sports Council on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in her post-tennis career. The council, established in 2005, is dedicated to developing Dubai’s sports sector, promoting physical activity, and supporting community wellness, especially among women and children.
Mirza, 37, took to Instagram to express her excitement: “Honoured and grateful to be a sports ambassador for Dubai! Thank you for this incredible opportunity, Dubai Sports Council,” she shared. The appointment event was graced by other prominent sports personalities, including UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who joined in congratulating Mirza.
Fans and followers praised her achievement on social media, celebrating her continuing influence in sports. Mirza retired from professional tennis in 2023 after her final Australian Open appearance, turning her focus to family life and exploring new roles within the sports world, including raising her son, Izhaan Mirza-Malik.
