Quetta: In the wake of recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in Quetta to review the law and order situation and discuss strategies to combat terrorism in the region. The meeting came in response to a surge in terrorist activities, which has raised concerns about security and stability in the province.

Focus on Combating Terrorism and Ensuring Development

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif expressed his condolences over the tragic incident in Kalat, where 23 terrorists were killed, and 18 soldiers martyred while defending the nation. He commended the sacrifices made by security forces and local youth in ensuring the safety and peace of the province. The Prime Minister strongly condemned the terrorists, describing them as enemies of Balochistan’s peace, prosperity, and development. He highlighted their attempts to prevent the people of Balochistan from attaining happiness, education, and employment.

Commitment to Balochistan’s Development

Despite the challenges posed by terrorism, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the development of Balochistan. “The journey of Balochistan’s development will continue. The actions of terrorists will not deter our resolve,” he said. He emphasized that the provincial development remains a top priority for the federal government.

In particular, the Prime Minister highlighted various initiatives aimed at empowering the youth and improving the quality of life in Balochistan. He mentioned the special educational quota for Balochistan students sent abroad, especially to China, and the government’s initiatives like the Youth Program and the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme, which have empowered young people in the region.

Additionally, PM Sharif touched upon the ongoing solarisation of agricultural tube wells to enhance Balochistan’s agricultural output. He underscored that these efforts are crucial to strengthening the local economy and ensuring sustainable development.

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Port

A major focus of the meeting was the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its role in transforming Balochistan and Pakistan as a whole. Prime Minister Sharif stressed that CPEC, along with the development of Gwadar Port, would position Pakistan as a regional connectivity hub, promoting economic growth and international trade. “Work on CPEC is progressing rapidly. Gwadar Airport has already started flight operations, and Gwadar Port will play a pivotal role in Pakistan’s economic future,” he said.

The Prime Minister further emphasized that the development of both Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is essential for the overall development of Pakistan. He urged the provincial and federal governments to work in unison, leaving behind political differences, to ensure peace and prosperity in the country.

National Unity and Solidarity in the Face of Terrorism

In a strong message, PM Sharif called for national unity and solidarity to tackle the challenges posed by terrorism. “This is not the time for divisions or politics. We must face these challenges together with unity and determination,” he said. He asserted that once peace is established, the political arena will flourish, and Pakistan will rise as a great nation. He also noted that the nation must work toward creating unity among the people, especially as the sacrifices of soldiers, who are bearing the brunt of past mistakes, continue to mount.

Visit to CMH Quetta: A Tribute to the Brave Soldiers

Earlier, Prime Minister Sharif visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Quetta, where he met with the soldiers injured in the recent terrorist attacks. The Prime Minister paid tribute to their courage and sacrifice, telling them, “You are all heroes of the nation. The entire country, including myself, is proud of you and your families, who embody the spirit of sacrifice.”

During the visit, PM Sharif was briefed on the condition of the injured personnel, who confirmed that they were receiving the best treatment available. The Prime Minister expressed his admiration for their unwavering determination and resilience in the face of adversity.

Concluding Remarks: A Call for National Unity

In his concluding remarks, PM Sharif called on all Pakistanis to stand united in the face of terrorism, stressing the importance of putting aside political differences for the greater good of the nation. He stated, “Only through unity and determination can we overcome the challenges before us. Once peace is restored, Pakistan will rise, and the political process will strengthen.”

The meeting in Quetta marked a significant moment in Pakistan’s ongoing fight against terrorism and a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to Balochistan’s development. The Prime Minister’s leadership continues to be pivotal in ensuring the safety, security, and prosperity of the people of Balochistan.
