Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given provinces till the 1st of next month to achieve wheat procurement targets.
He expressed his displeasure with the provinces’ failure to reach wheat procurement targets while chairing a meeting on Monday.
The Prime Minister stated that the people cannot be manipulated in any way. He stated that the federal government will offer flour to the people at reduced prices.
He stated that there will be no scarcity of the item.
The Prime Minister ordered the Minister of National Food Security to form an immediate committee to oversee the fair distribution of imported wheat among the provinces.
He directed to ensure the import of quality wheat.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that the federal government will provide all feasible assistance to the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while remaining above politics. He stated that serving the needy is our first responsibility.
The Prime Minister stated that the price of ten kilograms of flour at the Utility Stores should remain at 490 rupees.
He said the provinces should also ensure this price at the open market.
