The petrol prices in Pakistan have recently experienced a significant decrease after a two-month period of consistent increases. The new price for petrol has been set at Rs 323.38 per litre, marking a substantial reduction of Rs 8 per litre.

Furthermore, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has also seen a notable decline, dropping by Rs 11 per litre to reach Rs 318.18 per litre. Kerosene oil prices have been reduced by Rs 7.53 per litre, now standing at Rs 237.28 per litre.

Caretaker Minister for Information, Murtaza Solangi, had previously hinted at the possibility of a reduction in petrol prices during the next fortnight’s review. This optimism was largely attributed to the Pakistani rupee’s significant strengthening against the US dollar, which had gained between Rs 30 to Rs 35 in value against the greenback due to various administrative measures implemented by the caretaker government in recent days.

It’s worth noting that just a short while ago, on September 15, the government had implemented a substantial hike in both petrol and diesel prices, despite prior assurances of relief for the general population. This hike amounted to an increase of Rs 26.2 per litre for petrol, resulting in a new price of Rs 331.38 per litre, and an increase of Rs 17.34 per litre for diesel, raising its price to Rs 329.18 per litre.

In the span of just one month, the caretaker government had raised petrol prices by Rs 58 per litre and diesel prices by Rs 56 per litre, making the recent reduction in fuel prices a welcome relief for consumers.
