Punjab's Massive Electric Bus Expansion to Reach 91 Tehsils by 2027

Punjab is set to launch a major public transportation initiative. Starting in January 2027, the province plans to introduce electric bus services at the tehsil level. This expansion, driven by Punjab's Chief Minister, aims to bring modern, eco-friendly transportation to smaller administrative units, not just major cities.

Other districts include Sahiwal with 87 buses across four tehsils and Dera Ghazi Khan with 63 buses across 10 tehsils. Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Rawalpindi will also receive 125, 122, and 219 buses respectively.

This expansion builds on ongoing transportation improvements in Punjab. The provincial government reports that 612 electric buses are already operational, benefiting millions daily. An additional 192 buses are expected to become operational soon, including in Multan.

The plan also includes buses for districts such as Lahore, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Rahim Yar Khan, and Attock. Additional areas like Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Chiniot, Layyah, Okara, Sialkot, Murree, and Sheikhupura will also see service expansions.
