34 Women Trained to Drive Rickshaws in Lahore
The Punjab Traffic Police extend their women’s driving training, on CM Maryam Nawaz’s orders, to include rickshaws after taxis and scooties.

Lahore’s traffic police train 34 women to drive rickshaws on CM Maryam Nawaz’s orders, expanding a programme that already covers taxis and scooties.
In a step towards making women self-reliant, women in Lahore have been given training to drive rickshaws on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The traffic police had earlier provided driving training for taxis and scooties and have now extended the initiative to rickshaws.
The Training Programme
The Punjab Traffic Police conducted the training in collaboration with a private university. As many as 34 women were trained at driving schools in Bahria Town and Manawa.
What the CTO Said
City Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the programme aims to create respectable job opportunities for women, who can now pursue the profession of driving rickshaws. He said the police are “not only providing training” but also empowering women to earn an independent livelihood. He added that both men and women play a vital role in the development and social fabric of society, and that the Lahore Traffic Police will always be at the forefront of efforts to make women self-reliant and provide respectable jobs and economic stability.
