Pakistan and Oman hold the 8th Joint Ministerial Commission after seven years, agree to regular meetings, stronger trade and coordinated efforts for peace.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al-Busaidi at the Foreign Office in Islamabad ahead of the eighth session of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission. The two sides called for coordinated efforts to restore regional peace and stability and discussed plans to expand bilateral trade and cooperation.
Meetings Between the Two Ministers
Dar and Al-Busaidi held a one-on-one meeting before co-chairing the commission session. According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, they covered bilateral relations and opportunities to promote cooperation across various sectors. Dar said the commission was meeting after a gap of seven years, and both sides agreed that future meetings should be held more regularly to avoid such long intervals.
Regional Peace
Dar said the two countries discussed the regional situation in detail and stressed that Pakistan and Oman need to work together to promote peace and stability. The talks covered international and regional developments, including the situation in Palestine and Gaza and the issue of occupied Kashmir. Dar called for steps to normalise the regional situation, saying Pakistan and Oman could play a pivotal role, and he appreciated the Omani leadership’s efforts for regional peace.
Trade and Economic Cooperation
Dar said there are substantial opportunities to strengthen commercial relations and expand economic activity between the two countries. He announced that he will visit Oman in 2027, and described Pakistan’s relationship with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as unique.
Oman’s Message
Al-Busaidi thanked Pakistan for its hospitality and said the relationship is rooted in shared history, religion and values. He described the Joint Ministerial Commission as one important aspect of the countries’ longstanding ties and commended Pakistan’s efforts to establish peace in the region.
