Pakistan women's football team climbs FIFA rankings to 154th as international performance improves.

LAHORE: In a notable development for women’s football in Pakistan, the national team has ascended three spots in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, moving from 157th to 154th position.

This upward movement also came with a significant improvement in rating points — from 950 to 1007 — reflecting the team’s recent progress and growing potential on the international stage. The development is seen as a major morale booster for women’s sports in the country, particularly as the team continues to compete in regional and international fixtures with increased confidence and capability.

The improvement in rankings is attributed to recent positive performances in friendlies and regional tournaments. Football experts and fans alike have applauded the progress, urging more institutional support for the women’s squad to maintain and accelerate this momentum.

On the global stage, Spain has claimed the top spot in the rankings for the first time, displacing the United States to second place. Sweden also saw a significant jump, moving up three positions to take third place, while England edged up to fourth. These changes reflect a shift in the traditional hierarchy of women’s football, as new contenders rise and established teams continue to evolve.

Pakistan’s improved ranking, though modest, is seen as a symbol of growing interest and talent in the country’s women’s football scene, which had long struggled due to limited funding and exposure.
