During an ongoing session of the Senate, 43 senators have taken the oath as members of the House. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is overseeing the proceedings as the presiding officer for the initial session. Following the oath-taking ceremony, the session will proceed to elect the chairman and deputy chairman.

The election for these positions is significant, particularly due to the postponement of elections in 11 seats of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. Yousaf Raza Gilani from the Pakistan Peoples Party is currently the sole contender for the chairman’s position, making him a frontrunner for the coveted role.

However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided not to participate in the chairman and deputy chairman Senate elections as a form of protest against the delay in the Senate elections for the 11 seats in KPK.

PTI has taken proactive measures in this regard, including filing a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) requesting the postponement of the elections. Additionally, they have written to the Secretary Senate urging a delay in the polls.

As of the latest update, the IHC has called for responses from the concerned parties. The situation remains dynamic, with political maneuvering and legal actions shaping the landscape of the Senate elections.
