The trial of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the £190 million settlement case is expected to take place at Adiala jail, where the former prime minister is presently being held in the cipher case.

The arrest of the PTI chairman occurred a day earlier in relation to the Al-Qadir Trust and Toshakhana cases, following the issuance of his arrest warrants by an accountability court in Islamabad.

A team from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), led by Assistant Director Muhammad Asif and Waqarul Hasan, visited Adiala jail to execute the arrest warrants through the jail superintendent.

During a recent hearing, Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir responded to journalists’ queries about whether Khan would face a jail trial in the settlement case, stating that it could be a possibility if the notification was approved. He added that NAB would determine where the former premier would be produced.

When asked whether the court proceedings would extend to Adiala jail, Judge Bashir inquired, “Will you also go to Adiala jail then?” to which the journalists explained that they were not permitted to enter and report from inside Adiala jail.

Assuring the journalists, the judge stated that they would address the matter if a jail trial took place, emphasizing that an open court allows everyone to listen to the proceedings.

In a previous hearing, the judge questioned the NAB prosecutor about when the PTI chairman would be produced, asking whether Imran Khan was in jail or transferred to the police station. In response, the NAB prosecutor displayed a lack of knowledge, prompting Judge Bashir to direct the prosecutor to check whether a notification about the jail trial had been issued.
