The caretaker government announced a significant reduction in the price of petrol by Rs8 per litre on Monday.
The new petrol price will be Rs259.34 per litre starting January 16. However, the existing rate for diesel remains unchanged at Rs276.21 per litre for the next fortnight. No adjustments were mentioned for the prices of light-diesel oil and kerosene oil.
Earlier speculations indicated a decrease of over Rs5 in the petrol price, while high-speed diesel (HSD) was expected to see a change of Rs2. In the previous two weeks, the government had maintained the prices of petrol and diesel at Rs267.34 and Rs276.21 per litre, respectively.
