Gold Nears Two-Week High as Fed Policy Outlook and Middle East Conflict Stay in Focus
SINGAPORE / NEW YORK — Gold prices rallied to a two-week high on Wednesday as investors engaged in value buying following recent pullbacks, while closely monitoring escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and awaiting key monetary policy cues from the U.S. Federal Reserve.
Spot gold climbed over 1.4% to trade around $4,131 – $4,139 per ounce, marking its highest level since early July. U.S. gold futures for August delivery similarly advanced to $4,144 per ounce.
Key Drivers Behind the Rally
Technical Buying & Rebound: After experiencing its steepest weekly decline since early June, gold found strong support below $4,000 as market participants stepped in to capitalize on lower entry points.
Middle East Shipping & Energy Risk: Tensions surrounding vital maritime transit corridors, including the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, have intensified. Reports of oil tankers altering routes following maritime threats lifted crude oil prices, reigniting inflation concerns across global markets.
Fed Rate Expectations: Market participants are awaiting the upcoming U.S. Federal Reserve policy meeting for direction on interest rates. Prolonged higher interest rates typically weigh on non-yielding bullion, creating a tug-of-war between safe-haven demand and monetary policy pressure.
Market Commentary & Analysis
“Buyers have been stepping in seeking a value play after the recent pullback, while hopes for diplomatic progress alongside lingering risk premiums are assisting price moves.”
— Tim Waterer, Chief Market Analyst at KCM Trade
Analysts note that gold remains caught between two major forces: escalated geopolitical friction driving safe-haven demand, and elevated bond yields alongside rate-hike expectations capping prolonged upward momentum.
Broader Precious Metals Outlook
Other precious metals also mirrored bullion’s gains:
Silver rebounded toward a two-week high, supported by technical momentum.
Platinum and Palladium traded higher as industrial supply concerns linked to trade route disruptions supported prices.
