Pakistan’s stunning northern region, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), has been named one of BBC’s 25 best travel destinations for 2025, celebrated for its incredible travel experiences, pristine environment, and breathtaking landscapes.
The BBC compiled the list with contributions from its travel journalists and renowned organizations, including the United Nations World Tourism Organization, Sustainable Travel International, the Black Travel Alliance, and the World Travel & Tourism Council. Pakistan proudly secured the 20th spot on the list.
According to BBC, Pakistan’s efforts to promote responsible tourism and sustainable practices are attracting eco-conscious travelers to explore the country’s scenic northern areas. The region’s rich natural beauty and unique culture make it a standout destination.
Gilgit Baltistan, often referred to as “heaven’s gate,” is a treasure trove of lush valleys, crystal-clear lakes, and glacial waterfalls. Among its highlights are the fragrant cherry blossoms and apricot orchards in the Hunza Valley, the rolling Unesco-listed Deosai plains, and the serene, mirror-like lakes reminiscent of Shangri-La.
The launch of “Salam Pakistan,” the country’s first-ever national tourism brand in 2023, has further boosted the region’s appeal. This digital platform simplifies travel by offering e-visa applications and convenient booking options for visitors.
Dominica topped the list of 25 best destinations for 2025, recognized for its sustainable tourism and marine conservation efforts, including ethical opportunities to swim with sperm whales. Naoshima, Japan, famous for its contemporary art and architecture, secured the second spot, while other notable destinations include the Dolomites in Italy, Greenland, and the Azores.
Gilgit Baltistan’s inclusion in this prestigious list underscores its status as one of the most picturesque and eco-friendly destinations in the world, inviting travelers to experience its unparalleled beauty and serenity.
