Pakistan Explores Libyan Crude to Diversify Energy Supplies
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik also discusses LNG with Qatar, while Türkiye plans to send a seismic survey vessel for Indus Basin exploration next month.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik discusses Libyan crude imports, LNG with Qatar and Indus Basin exploration with Türkiye at the IEF ministerial in Riyadh.
Pakistan is exploring the possibility of importing crude oil from Libya as part of efforts to diversify its energy supplies and reduce its exposure to disruptions in global energy markets. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik discussed the proposal at the 17th International Energy Forum ministerial meeting in Riyadh, where he held talks with Libyan Oil and Gas Minister Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek on petroleum cooperation, including alternative supply routes and the modernisation of refineries.
LNG and Exploration
Qatar: Malik also met Qatar’s energy minister to discuss potential cooperation in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector, an important part of Pakistan’s energy mix for power generation and industry.
Türkiye: A Turkish seismic survey vessel is due to arrive in Pakistan next month to support oil and gas exploration in the Indus Basin. Seismic surveys help identify underground geological structures that may hold commercially viable energy resources.
Wider Energy Measures
Pakistan is also pursuing the development of strategic reserves, higher domestic production and energy-sector reforms. Diversifying crude suppliers could reduce dependence on a limited number of international sources and give the country more options during periods of global market uncertainty. Further progress will depend on negotiations with potential suppliers, exploration results and the implementation of planned reforms.
