The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday restored the senate membership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati.

According to an ECP official, senator Azam Swati’s membership was restored after he submitted asset and liability disclosure forms and met all necessary requirements in accordance with the applicable election regulations.

The ECP also restored the membership of MPAs Moazzam Ali and Saeed Ahmed.

Up to 271 legislators’ memberships were previously suspended by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for failing to provide information regarding their holdings and liabilities.

After 271 legislators failed to provide the statement of their assets and liabilities that was required by the ECP at year’s end, the electoral watchdog terminated their membership.

The ECP has suspended 136 members of the National Assembly, 21 senators, 54 representatives from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, 48 representatives from the Sindh Assembly, and 12 representatives from the Balochistan Assembly.

It is pertinent to mention here that in January, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had given a deadline to the parliamentarians for submitting the details of their assets by January 15.
