CM Punjab rewards Pakistan National Hockey Team for their performance in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2024. The Pakistan team remained unbeaten in the entire tournament except a draw with Japan and one with New Zealand. They reached the final landing on top of the points table. In the final, however, after a draw, Japan won the title and the Cup in penalty shoot-outs. Subsequently Pakistan achieved second place and received silver medals. Nonetheless this victory means much more to the nation than the title. After 13 continuous years of strife, this has been long- awaited. The achievement restores faith and hope of many in the National sport.
CM Punjab stated,“Hockey is not only our national sport but also a national pride”
Following this she highlighted how the state would back the hockey team on each preceding step from here onwards. She stated that Sports Minister Faisal Khokhar has been given the responsibility of revitalizing this sport, with the aim of bringing sports to every street and neighborhood in Punjab. On Tuesday, the players were awarded with a cash price of 30 Million to acknowledge their unflagging efforts in the tournament.
I congratulate the hockey team on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and myself. It is a very proud moment for us that you have raised the national honour in the field of hockey.
Additionally, the Prime Minister also plans to pay his tribute by holding a formal dinner with all members of the Hockey Team. He will also distribute certain prizes among these players.
