Celebrities in Pakistan utilise their platform to advocate for Gaza. Particularly in the context of HUM TV Awards, celebrities like Hania Amir have expressed their support to people in Gaza. In most instances, Award shows are exclusively held for entertainment purposes. They are an eminent component of every successful entertainment industry, rewarding the best of the best and fostering competition. They serve as a vital channel for establishing fashion trends. Over a long period of time, the gradually growing industry of Pakistan has developed enough to expand its events of this sort as well. From Dubai to Pakistan, HUM TV awards are arguably the biggest of their kind in this country.

Hania Amir

Contrary to the normative sequence of occurrences, this year’s show included an exceptional speech by Hania Amir. After winning an award for the most stylish Actor TV(female), Hania Amir gave an empowering message.

She showed up to the award show in an attire inspired by the Palestinian symbol of a keffiyeh. The keffiyeh is a traditional Palestinian cloth that has widely been used all over the world to signify resistance. As soon she was handed the mic to present her gratitude address, she took this opportunity to talk about the genocide in Gaza instead. In particular, she urged her fellow actors to use their platforms to amplify voices of those in Gaza. She said,

All of us over here have a platform. Whether you’re popular or not you have a platform that you can use to amplify your voice. I would like you to use that platform to demand a ceasefire. #Ceasefirenow should never stop trending. We’re writing history with our actions right now with whatever we’re doing and saying. So, let’s all be on the right side of history.

Bilal saed, Faris Shafi, Subhan Umais, are all celebrities who expressed their support for a ceasefire. They either used their outfits and styles to incorporate symobls of resistance or acknowledged this crisis through their speeches.
