KARACHI — Strong bullish sentiment returned to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday as the benchmark KSE-100 Index surged by nearly 1,200 points. The aggressive buying rally was driven by reported diplomatic breakthroughs and active international mediation efforts aiming to de-escalate ongoing Middle East geopolitical hostilities.

The benchmark index opened on a solid footing, steadily building upward momentum throughout the trading session to touch an intraday high of 177,370 points. By the close of market hours, the KSE-100 settled higher by 1,177.70 points (or 0.67%) at 177,105.40, successfully recovering a major portion of earlier weekly losses.

Diplomatic News Triggers Risk-On Sentiment

Equity investors had spent previous trading sessions under significant strain, fearing that escalating conflicts in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea corridors would disrupt global crude oil supplies and reignite import-driven inflation across emerging economies.

However, reports confirming active back-channel diplomatic mediation—alongside signals of willingness between key global powers to prevent a wider escalation—prompted an immediate shift toward risk-on sentiment across institutional trading desks.

Analyst Insight: “The market’s sensitivity to Middle Eastern developments cannot be overstated. The moment international headline risk eased, value-hunting kicked in across blue-chip equities. Lower crude volatility directly improves Pakistan’s balance of payments outlook and eases fiscal pressures,” noted a senior research analyst at a leading Karachi brokerage house.

Sectoral Overview and Index Heavyweights

Buying interest was broad-based, with heavy inflows recorded in cyclical, financial, and energy sectors:

Commercial Banks: Banking equities provided the strongest fundamental foundation for the benchmark index. Major institutions like Bank of Punjab (BOP) gained 1.54% to close at Rs 34.21, alongside institutional accumulation in United Bank Limited (UBL) and Meezan Bank.

Energy & Refineries: Energy counters saw robust interest as local refiners expected improved profit margins and smoother inventory cost planning. Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) emerged as one of the volume leaders, climbing 5.24% to settle at Rs 51.62.

Cements & Construction Materials: Blue-chip cement manufacturers saw aggressive buying on expectations of stabilized fuel and transport costs, which directly impact production overheads.

Trading Volumes and Market Liquidity

Overall market liquidity recorded a healthy uptick compared to the previous session, confirming genuine institutional participation rather than short-term retail speculation:

Total daily turnover across all main-board equities surged past 132 million shares.

Total traded value crossed PKR 7.49 billion, signaling high confidence from foreign corporate institutions and local mutual funds.

Out of 345 active companies traded during the session, 218 advanced, 105 declined, and 22 remained unchanged.

Forward Market Outlook

Financial experts emphasize that while domestic macroeconomic fundamentals—including robust corporate earnings, steady inflation trends, and stable foreign currency reserves—remain supportive, near-term stock exchange direction will stay closely tied to international commodity movements.

If global crude oil prices remain capped and regional diplomatic channels continue to demonstrate tangible progress, technical analysts project the KSE-100 index could test new historical resistance levels above the 178,500-point mark before the end of the trading week.
