K-Electric Sees Increased Power Consumption Under PM’s Bijli Sahulat Package

Karachi’s Industries Benefit from Lower Electricity Rates

K-Electric (KE) has reported a positive response to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Bijli Sahulat Package, which offered lower electricity rates on incremental consumption during the winter months of December 2024 to February 2025.

The initiative, aimed at encouraging higher electricity usage during the off-peak season, was particularly well-received by industrial consumers within KE’s network. Data shows that incremental power consumption among industries increased by 6-7% over the course of the package, highlighting its effectiveness in boosting energy usage while ensuring affordability.

KE’s Commitment to Karachi’s Economic Growth

The increased electricity consumption reinforces KE’s dedication to supporting Karachi’s industrial activity and aligns with the government’s broader efforts to stimulate economic growth and productivity.

KE’s Head of Communications, Imran Rana, commented on the impact of the relief package, stating:

“The Prime Minister’s Bijli Sahulat Package incentivised the usage of over 100 million units of electricity cumulatively in Karachi, allowing customers to reap the benefit of higher consumption during the off season.”

He further emphasized KE’s commitment to supporting industries and promoting energy affordability and efficiency:

“KE supports industries’ growth, recognising that economic stability is driven by a thriving industrial sector. This is a clear indication of the effectiveness of such targeted packages, and we encourage the continuation of initiatives that enable affordability while promoting energy efficiency.”

Government’s Winter Electricity Relief Initiative

The Bijli Sahulat Package was introduced by the federal government to lower electricity costs for residential, commercial, general services, and industrial consumers. It was designed to encourage higher power consumption during the winter months when demand typically declines.

This initiative came in response to rising electricity tariffs and economic challenges, ensuring that consumers—especially industries—could benefit from cost savings while maintaining or increasing their power usage.

Key Highlights of the PM’s Electricity Relief Package:

✅ Lower electricity rates for incremental consumption (December 2024 – February 2025).
✅ Targeted consumers: Residential, commercial, general services, and industrial sectors.
✅ Increase in industrial power consumption: 6-7% growth within KE’s network.
✅ Over 100 million units of electricity consumed in Karachi under the package.

Conclusion: A Step Toward Economic Growth

The success of the Bijli Sahulat Package demonstrates the impact of strategic energy policies in fostering industrial growth and economic stability. With a thriving industrial sector being key to Pakistan’s economic resilience, experts suggest that such initiatives should be continued and expanded to further support businesses and households struggling with high energy costs.
