Punjab’s ambitious plan to export skilled labor will train and employ 100,000 young people
In a significant move toward economic growth and youth empowerment Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set the lofty goal of providing training and jobs for 100,000 young people in Punjab. CM Maryam stressed the importance of inclusive development programs, overseas job placements, and hands on training during a high-level meeting on Wednesday to discuss the province’s skilled workforce export strategy.
Competent Personnel for International Markets
The Chief Minister gave officials instructions to create a thorough plan for sending skilled laborers overseas. For those who finish skill development programs, the proposal offers soft loans and priority access to business cards. It is anticipated that this action will provide much needed remittances to the domestic economy and provide job opportunities in foreign markets.
The government will work with the business sector to implement the Skills on Wheel initiative which will provide mobile training services to underserved communities in order to increase access to training possibilities for young people living in distant places.
Call Center Training with High Earning Potential
Among the key initiatives is the rollout of a plug and play call center training system. In the first phase 5000 young individuals will receive specialized training over six weeks, preparing them for high-paying call center jobs. Trainees will be equipped with in demand communication and customer service skills with potential monthly earnings of up to Rs. 100,000.
The government also discussed launching a Skills Card which would digitally track the progress and certifications of each individual streamlining the employment process and making them more attractive to both local and international employers.
Providing Vocational Training to Empower Women
Through vocational programs women empowerment is given particular attention. 480 women will receive training at the Quaid e Azam Business Park Garment Training Institute which will include pick and drop services and stipends of Rs.20,000. These women will be employed by major textile companies following their training, offering them a steady route to financial independence.
Expanding IT and International Training Opportunities
Nadir Chattha Secretary of the Punjab Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department revealed that all technical and vocational institutions have been merged under a single umbrella to streamline operations and improve impact.
Under the CM Skilled Punjab Initiative, 4,000 youth have already received international IT certifications, with plans to expand this number to 10,000. The government also announced a free six-month hospitality training program in partnership with a prestigious British institute which includes guaranteed job placements after graduation.
Inclusive Development: Focus on Transgender Community & Rural Women
The Punjab government has extended training to 1600 transgender individuals equipping them with skills in textiles, makeup artistry, and backstage production. Each participant received a monthly stipend of Rs.8000.
The “Tabeer” program is actively connecting trained individuals with overseas job opportunities. Meanwhile a rural women digital training initiative has attracted over 27000 applicants offering free desktop computers and training in English and basic IT skills to bridge the digital divide.
Centralized monitoring and a digital dashboard
By mid April, the Punjab Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department will introduce a consolidated digital dashboard to improve transparency and oversight. All training program enrollments, advancement, certifications, and employment placements will be monitored by this platform.

Reversing the Double Decker Bus Fare Hike
In another noteworthy move CM Maryam Nawaz also mandated that the TDCP double decker sightseeing buses in Lahore immediately reverse the fare hike. Corporate reservations were raised from Rs.5000 to Rs. 20000 the ticket was recently raised from Rs.200 to Rs.500.
The Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) retracted the announcement and reinstated the old fare prices in response to her direction. In order to encourage tourism Maryam Nawaz underlined that the Sightseeing Lahore Bus Service which runs on three main routes should continue to be accessible and reasonably priced.
