In a significant move to enhance regional energy cooperation, Pakistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to expedite work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. This decision was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik and Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, who is currently on a two-day visit to Pakistan.

The Turkmen delegation, led by Rashid Meredov, included several high-ranking officials: Ata Haljanov, head of International Economic Cooperation Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan; Eziz Nazarov, head of Legal Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan; Muhammetmyrat Amanov, Chairman of the Board and CEO of TAPI Pipeline Company Ltd; Atadjan Movlamov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan; and Eldar Permanov, third secretary of the Embassy of Turkmenistan.

Dr. Musadik Malik welcomed the delegation warmly and expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended during his recent visit to Turkmenistan. He remarked that the visit of Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister marks a significant milestone in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. Highlighting the TAPI pipeline’s potential, Dr. Malik noted that it will lower energy costs, boost industrial growth, create jobs, and foster economic development. “Reliable and affordable energy supplies are vital for industrial sectors and overall economic stability,” he stated.

Dr. Malik emphasized the substantial progress made on the TAPI project through collaborative efforts and continuous engagement between the two countries. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s full commitment to the project, recognizing its importance for regional energy cooperation and infrastructure development.

Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov expressed his profound appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Pakistani side. He mentioned that together, both nations will chart a roadmap for cooperation. Muhammetmyrat Amanov, CEO of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, highlighted the significant progress achieved with the special interest of the Petroleum Minister and the Special Investment Facilitation Council, ensuring that TAPI is on the right track.

Officials from both Pakistan and Turkmenistan underscored the project’s strategic importance in enhancing regional connectivity, promoting economic growth, and meeting the energy demands of participating nations. They reiterated their commitment to continued cooperation and mutual support to overcome any remaining challenges.

The TAPI gas pipeline project, aimed at fostering economic integration and energy security, represents a cornerstone for regional development. With both nations dedicated to accelerating its progress, the TAPI project stands as a beacon of hope for regional cooperation and prosperity.
