Fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani has been ruled out of the Pakistan Shaheens’ ongoing tour of Darwin due to a back injury. This unfortunate development means that Dahani will miss the second four-day match against Bangladesh A, scheduled to start on Friday, as well as the upcoming white-ball segment of the tour. The white-ball segment includes two one-day games and the Top End T20 Series.

Dahani, 25, who took four wickets in the first four-day match against Bangladesh A, will return to Pakistan immediately for further assessment by the medical panel. Following this assessment, he will commence a rehabilitation program to address his back injury.

To compensate for Dahani’s absence, the team management has called up spin-bowling all-rounder Mubasir Khan. Mubasir, who has demonstrated considerable potential in domestic circuits, will join the squad for the white-ball matches. His inclusion is expected to enhance the team’s depth in both batting and bowling, providing a strategic advantage in the absence of Dahani’s pace.

Additionally, Khurram Shahzad, who was initially slated to return home after the conclusion of the four-day series, will now remain with the squad for the white-ball games. Shahzad’s continued presence offers the team additional options in the pace department for the upcoming one-day matches against Northern Territory Strike and Bangladesh ‘A’, scheduled for August 4 and 6, respectively.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its support for Dahani’s recovery, underscoring the importance of maintaining players’ health and fitness. The team’s management and medical staff will continue to monitor Dahani’s situation and provide updates as necessary.

This setback is a significant blow to the Pakistan Shaheens, given Dahani’s recent form and impact on the team. His performance in the first match against Bangladesh A had been instrumental, and his absence will be felt in both the remaining four-day match and the subsequent white-ball games.

However, the inclusion of Mubasir Khan and the extended stay of Khurram Shahzad are measures aimed at ensuring that the team remains competitive. Mubasir’s all-round capabilities are expected to provide a balanced approach, particularly in the white-ball segment, while Shahzad’s experience and skill in the pace department will be crucial.

As Dahani begins his rehabilitation, the focus will be on his full recovery and return to the field. The PCB’s medical panel will be diligent in ensuring that he receives the best possible care and treatment. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Shaheens will adapt and strategize to make the most of the available resources for the remainder of the tour.

The cricketing community and fans will undoubtedly keep a close eye on Dahani’s progress, hoping for his swift recovery and return to the team. His potential and previous performances have shown that he is a valuable asset to Pakistan cricket, and his health and fitness are paramount for future successes.

In summary, while Shahnawaz Dahani’s injury is a significant setback, the Pakistan Shaheens are taking proactive steps to adapt and maintain their competitiveness on the tour. The inclusion of Mubasir Khan and the retention of Khurram Shahzad demonstrate the team’s resilience and strategic planning in response to this challenge.
