Terrorists have no religious or ideological moorings, COAS says after Karachi attack

On Saturday, during his visit to Karachi alongside Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir made it clear that terrorists do not have any religious or ideological basis. Instead, he stated that their actions are a result of misguided beliefs forced upon them through coercion or inducement.

The Army Chief went on to emphasize that the Pakistani people have consistently rejected and defeated terrorism and extremism in all forms. Despite political and other distractions faced by the public, the security forces remain singularly focused on counterterrorism and Intelligence-based operations (IBOs), which are being conducted throughout the country with great success.

General Syed Asim Munir added that mutual trust, the will of the people, and synergy among all stakeholders are necessary for the nation to overcome such challenges through kinetic actions.

The Karachi Police Office (KPO) incident was a significant event that required a coordinated counter-terrorism operation involving the Pak Army Special Service Group (SSG), Pakistan Rangers Sindh, and Sindh Police.

The Chief Minister and Army Chief were briefed on the situation at the Corps Headquarters and later visited the KPO and Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where they met with the injured soldiers of the Police and Pakistan Rangers Sindh.

During the visit, they praised the bravery, morale, and sacrifices of the Army, Police, and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) in the line of duty. Chief Minister Sindh also stated that the state acknowledges and salutes the innumerable sacrifices rendered by the law-enforcing agencies and the nation’s unbreakable resolve against terrorism.
