The funeral prayers for two Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officers who were killed in action were held on Wednesday. Unknown perpetrators shot and killed the two officers in Khanewal, a city in the Punjab province. Two officers were shot and killed instantly by unidentified gunmen who opened fire on them at a hotel in Khanewal City.

Director Naveed Sadiq, who received the Sitara-e-Shujaat, and Inspector Nasir Abbas had their funeral prayers attended by DG ISI Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Inspector General of Police Aamir Zulfiqar, and other military and civil officials.

It is crucial to note that this is the ISI director’s second appearance in public since taking office on November 20, 2021. He previously participated in a press conference with Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar, the previous DG of ISPR. It has therefore acquired popularity that DG ISI made a rare appearance at the burial.

“DG ISI Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum attends the funeral of two intelligence officers in a rare appearance. The symbolism is significant. DG I and other ISI representatives are typically dressed professionally. Salman Masood, a journalist, said that the DG ISI was spotted wearing a military uniform at the funeral, symbolizing a fight against militancy.

Shahzad Sultan, the Additional Inspector-General of Police (AIGP), swore in a statement to apprehend the murder suspect. Pervaiz Elahi, the chief minister of Punjab, requested a report from the inspector general of Punjab. The incident was condemned by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, who also requested reports from the Chief Secretary and Inspector General.
