Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stated Tuesday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced the creation of a judicial panel to look into the shooting death of renowned journalist and former ARY News anchor Arshad Sharif in Kenya.

In a “mistaken identification case,” Arshad Sharif was fatally shot by Kenyan police on Sunday evening along the Nairobi-Magadi highway.

Later, “regrets on the sad situation” and an investigation were both stated in the official police statement.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced today that the federal government has chosen to establish a judicial commission under the direction of a high court judge to look into the killing of a well-known journalist.

She also mentioned that the head of the judicial committee can ask members of the media and of civil society to join the investigation team looking into the situation surrounding Sharif’s death.

Body to arrive today

The flight carrying the body of senior journalist Arshad Sharif has departed for Pakistan from Kenya’s Nairobi.

The aircraft will touch down at Islamabad International Airport via Doha at 1:25 am on Tuesday, according to the Foreign Office.

Senior journalist’s killing incident

Following an accident on Sunday night’s outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, Sharif accepted martyrdom.

He was traveling from the country’s Magadi town to Nairobi when the tragedy happened.

According to Kenyan media, Arshad Sharif and his driver allegedly violated a roadblock and were then shot in the head and killed by police.

According to the police, who were cited by the Kenyan media when describing the incident, the manned roadblock had information to stop a car that Arshad Sharif and his driver were in after a carjacking incident in Nairobi where a child was allegedly taken, hostage.
