For flood victims in Karachi, the Malir Development Authority (MDA) will set up a temporary tent colony. For the flood victims coming to Karachi from interior Sindh, the government has set aside 100 acres of land to build a tent city.

Director General MDA Sohail Khan has announced that “the tent settlement will be erected near New Malir Housing Scheme-I link road.”

The DG MDA added that the settlement was made up of temporary tents and had been set up for a month. “Flood affected individuals would be relocated in the area outside Naya Nazimabad after one month,” he continued.

The Sindh government had previously declared that 100 acres of land in Karachi’s Malir neighborhood would be set aside for a tent city for flood victims.

When discussing the tent city, deputy commissioner Malir stated that sector 18 of the Malir district will receive a 100-acre parcel of land. As many as 100,000 flood victims will be sheltered in the area’s thousands of tents, he said. He mentioned that the flood victims would receive various facilities in the camps in addition to housing.

Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, claimed on Thursday that only 250,000 of the 1.5 million tents needed have been set up.

After touring the flood-affected villages of Sujawal, Sindh’s chief minister told the media in Thatta that the government had so far given flood victims 2.5 million tents and two million tarpaulin sheds. Due to a lack of tents, “not even 33 percent of flood victims provided tents,” he claimed.

On September 1, the Sindh High Court (SHC) Sukkur bench ruled that tent towns for flood victims be built right away throughout the province.
