ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia has handed over 100 tons of dates to Pakistan’s new government for distribution to the country’s needy, according to the kingdom’s envoy in Islamabad.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Agency (KSRelief) provides tons of dates with Pakistani officials as part of an annual ritual to assist people.

The kingdom is one of the world’s largest producers of dates, accounting for almost 17 percent of total worldwide production.

Saudi ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki and director of KSRelief Dr. Khalid M. Al-Othmani handed over the package to Pakistani government officials during a ceremony in Islamabad.

He went on to state that the dates were delivered by KSRelief, a Saudi aid organization that he said was always at the forefront of helping mankind.

“On this occasion, I would want to assure our Pakistani brothers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s firm resolve to always stand by their nation and elevate our brotherly relations to new heights under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud,” Al-Malki stated.

The Saudi authorities were praised for their contribution, according to Brigadier (r) Hammad Amjad, director-general of the cabinet division.

“We are thankful to the Saudi government for this kind gesture, which has become a regular event and contributes significantly to the two nations’ brotherly relations,” he added.

“These dates will be allocated among all provinces, regions, and the Islamabad Capital Territory per the authorized distribution methodology set down in the National Finance Commission award,” Amjad added.
