Pakistan’s climate change advisor, Malik Amin Aslam said that they are thinking to use UAE cloud-seeding tech for artificial rain to tackle the problem of smog next year.

In recent research concerning the air quality index, Lahore was deemed as one of the most polluted cities. Lahore’s increasing smog is leading to high levels of pollution and health problems. That’s why, Lahore’s residents requested and asked the relevant authorities to take suitable steps to minimize smog, which keeps on getting worse each year.

Malik Amin Aslam said government had taken several steps to face and nullify smog, however, he admitted that the measures were still not enough. He went on to state that the main cause of smog was the transportation sector. Crop burning was also mentioned by Malik Amin Aslam, he said that 90% of crop burning and the pollution caused by it is taking place in India.

He also suggested that an official regional dialogue with India to eradicate the problem is needed. On top of that, he agreed that Pakistan needs some short term solutions as well.

“I had a conversation with Dubai’s climate change minister. They use cloud seeding technology to make rain. This can be a solution, which we are studying currently” he said. “We may rely on that technology to make artificial rain 2-3 times next year”

Malik Amin Aslam also praised the authorities of the UAE for creating such an effective tech for artificial rain. UAE is the only country in the Gulf that has used cloud seeding artificial rain to prevent water shortages.

UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology has also claimed that cloud seeding technology could also control global warming, to a certain extent.
