Recep Tayyib Erdogan the Turkish President, launched the welding of the third ship under the Milgem project, designing ships for the Pakistan Navy. This was the third of the four Milgem Ada-class corvette for Pakistan Navy therein. The Ambassador of Pakistan in Turkey Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi, accompanied the President.

At the ceremony, the President talked about Pakistan being their ‘brotherly country with whom Turkey enjoys excellent relations.’ This Milgem collaboration was another step in strengthening the ties between the two nations. As to both of them living in difficult geographical regions, the president assured that Turkey would continue with its friendly ties with its neighbor.

Talking about his visit to Pakistan as of last year, he said that the two countries had signed the Strategic Economic Framework that promised necessary frameworks to strengthen the ties. The contract in hand was signed with Transfer of Technology (ToT), in a Turkish state owned firm in 2018.

Being 99 meters long and having a capacity of 2400 tonnes, the Milgem vessels can move at a speed of 29 nautical miles. As to being hidden from the radar, they are one great addition to the Pakistan Navy defence schemes.
