Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler Waqas Maqsood has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, closing a chapter that saw him represent the national team briefly while excelling in domestic competitions for over a decade.

Short but impactful international stint

Maqsood made his international debut in November 2018 during a T20 International against New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium. He became the 80th cricketer to don the Pakistan jersey in the shortest format of the game.
Although he only featured in a single international match, he made an impact by taking 2 wickets in 1.5 overs, leaving his mark despite a short-lived career on the international stage.

Domestic cricket career

Born in Faisalabad, Maqsood established himself as a consistent performer in Pakistan’s domestic circuit from 2011 to 2023.

  • He played 81 first-class matches,
  • 56 List A games, and
  • 68 T20 matches, regularly contributing with his left-arm pace.

His strong domestic performances earned him a spot in the Pakistan squad, showcasing his talent and dedication to the sport.

Retirement at 37

At 37 years of age, Maqsood has now decided to step away from international cricket. His career highlights a familiar story of players whose international opportunities were limited but whose domestic achievements significantly contributed to Pakistan’s cricketing structure.

With his retirement, he joins the ranks of cricketers remembered for their commitment at the domestic level and their brief yet proud representation of the national team.
