As the Pakistan Super League (PSL) approaches its 11th season, three major franchises have voiced their preference for a change in the player selection process. Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, and Quetta Gladiators are advocating for a full auction system to replace the current draft format.
Franchises Seek Equal Opportunity Through Auction
According to insiders, these teams believe that an auction would create a more balanced environment for acquiring top talent. They argue that the draft system tends to favor franchises with earlier picks, often leaving their preferred players unavailable. By implementing an auction, all franchises would have an equal chance to bid for and sign leading players.
Requests Submitted to PSL Management
The three franchises have reportedly submitted formal requests to the PSL management, seeking clarity on several points:
- Rules regarding direct player signings
- The permitted number of players under the direct signing category
- Transparency in the process of finalizing player categories
Mixed Opinions Among Other Teams
While Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, and Quetta Gladiators support the auction system, Lahore Qalandars have expressed their preference for maintaining the draft format. As of now, no official stance has been communicated by Peshawar Zalmi.
Awaiting Response from PSL Authorities
Sources close to the matter indicate that the franchises are still waiting for a response from the PSL management regarding their proposals. No official reply has been received to date.
