Sydney Sixers produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Sydney Thunder by 47 runs in the 7th match of the Big Bash League, thanks to a blistering knock by Josh Philippe and a solid half-century from Babar Azam.
Batting first after losing the toss, the Sixers recovered from an early setback with a match-defining 140-run partnership between Philippe and Babar. Philippe was the standout performer, smashing 96 off just 57 balls, while Babar contributed a composed 58 off 42 deliveries. Despite late wickets, the Sixers posted a formidable total of 199.
In response, the Thunder struggled to keep up with the required run rate and were bowled out for 151. Sam Billings and Shadab Khan offered brief resistance, scoring 51 and 41 respectively, but lacked support from the rest of the batting lineup.
Jack Edwards led the Sixers’ bowling attack with an impressive five-wicket haul, while Joel Davies claimed three wickets to seal a convincing victory for their side.
