The Sindh government is set to assume operational control of the federally-funded Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system starting Monday (today). To ensure affordable fares for commuters, the province has allocated Rs1 billion in subsidies to maintain the existing fare structure for the next four months, sources revealed on Sunday.
Unlike the Sindh Peoples Bus Service (PBS), which recently set its minimum fare at Rs80, the Green Line’s maximum fare remains at Rs55 per person, supported by a federal subsidy.
“The Rs1 billion subsidy from the Sindh government will help sustain the current fare levels until June 2025,” a source confirmed.
However, questions remain about whether these fares will remain unchanged beyond June, raising concerns about the system’s long-term financial sustainability.
