Salman Butt Gets Job Offer from Afghanistan Cricket Board

After facing criticism and public outcry, Salman Butt, the former captain removed from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection panel, has received a job offer from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

Alongside Kamran Akmal and Iftikhar Anjum, Salman Butt was initially appointed as a consultant to the chief selector by the PCB, with their roles set to commence before the five-match T20I series against New Zealand in January. However, due to severe backlash, the PCB retracted Salman Butt’s appointment as a consultant.

In response to the controversy, Wahab Riaz, Pakistan’s chief selector, addressed the media, stating, “Salman Butt’s appointment as a consultant was under consideration. Now, we have decided after careful deliberation that we are not appointing him.” Riaz explained that the decision to reverse Salman Butt’s appointment was prompted by the widespread discussion and negative comments surrounding the move.

Subsequently, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has reached out to Salman Butt, offering him the position of Batting Consultant for the upcoming series against India. The Afghanistan team is scheduled to play against India in the coming month.

The situation highlights the challenges and scrutiny faced by cricket boards in making personnel decisions, as public opinion and media reactions can significantly influence the outcomes. The turn of events underscores the volatile nature of appointments in the cricketing world and the importance of considering public sentiment in such decisions.
